The HERI Africa Research Chair in Mathematics Education, in collaboration with the University of Embu, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the 2026/2027 HERI Africa Foundational Numeracy Scholarships to pursue Master’s and PhD programmes at the University of Embu.
The scholarships will commence on 31st August 2026 and support up to 13 Master’s students and five PhD students conducting research in foundational numeracy and mathematics education.
The scholarships aim to strengthen research capacity and generate high-quality evidence to inform policy and practice to improve foundational numeracy outcomes in Kenya and across Africa.
Scholarship support will include contributions towards approved university fees, a monthly subsistence stipend, approved conference participation and selected research-related expenses. The level of support will be specified in individual Scholarship Award Letters.
