The University of Embu, in partnership with HERI Africa, will officially launch the Research Chair in Mathematics Education on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at an event coinciding with the global celebration of the International Day of Mathematics.

The launch, at the university, will convene scholars, educators, policymakers, and students to celebrate the power of mathematics and its critical role in advancing education, innovation, and development. Participants will also join the global community in marking the International Day of Mathematics, which highlights the beauty, creativity, and importance of mathematics in everyday life.

The Research Chair aims to strengthen mathematics education by advancing high-quality research, supporting educators, and promoting evidence-informed teaching and learning across Africa.

The launch follows the recent introduction of the Harnessing Education Research for Impact in Africa (HERI Africa) initiative on February 19, 2026, at Kisii University in Kenya. The event brought together government leaders, including Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba, who officiated the launch, higher education institutions, civil society, development partners, and research organizations to reinforce the role of research in shaping policy, driving innovation, and advancing socio-economic development across the continent.
